US Housing Shortage Fix Takes Shape | When Experience and Results Matter

A new federal analysis estimated the US lacked 10M homes and said cutting housing rules could boost construction, stabilize prices, expand ownership, and lift growth.
The analysis said the country would have had 10M more homes if single-family building had kept its historical pace after the 2008 financial crisis.
It said home prices ↑82% since 2000 while incomes ↑12%, and higher post-pandemic mortgage rates made monthly payments much harder for buyers.
Current executive orders aimed to cut housing burdens and help smaller banks provide mortgages.
The report said construction regulations add >$100K to building costs, including code changes, compliance expenses, zoning approval fees, and other requirements.
